چکیده

metry (‘ROTEM’) are used increasingly in cardiac and liver surgery to evaluate clotting factor deficiencies and platelet dysfunction. 7 Both monitor viscoelastic properties of whole blood as it is induced to clot in a low-shear environment (resembling sluggish venous flow) and provide valuable information on haemostasis from initiation to fibrinolysis. Our case illustrates the limitations that routine clotting tests have in predicting the risk of haemorrhage and we postulate that had results of TEG or ROTEM been available the extent of the coagulation defect might have been determined more expediently. We believe that there may be an increasing role for such point of care testing in this setting.

Evaluation of coagulation stages of hemorrhaged swine: comparison of thromboelastography and rotational elastometry.

Thromboelastography (TEG) or rotational thromboelastometry (ROTEM) assesses blood viscoelastic properties and clotting kinetics that can be measured by Haemoscope TEG and Pentapharm ROTEM devices using slightly different methodologies. These devices were compared by measuring blood samples associated with various degrees of coagulopathy. Blood samples, collected from swine undergoing three type...

Effect of thromboelastography (TEG®) and rotational thromboelastometry (ROTEM®) on diagnosis of coagulopathy, transfusion guidance and mortality in trauma: descriptive systematic review

INTRODUCTION The understanding of coagulopathies in trauma has increased interest in thromboelastography (TEG®) and thromboelastometry (ROTEM®), which promptly evaluate the entire clotting process and may guide blood product therapy. Our objective was to review the evidence for their role in diagnosing early coagulopathies, guiding blood transfusion, and reducing mortality in injured patients. ...

Coagulopathies in Cyanotic Cardiac Patients: An Analysis with Three Point-of-care Testing Devices (Thromboelastography, Rotational Thromboelastometry, and Sonoclot Analyzer)

INTRODUCTION In the last few years, viscoelastic point-of-care (POC) coagulation devices such as thromboelastography (TEG), rotational thromboelastometry (ROTEM), and Sonoclot (SON) analyzer have been increasingly used in major surgeries for timely assessment and management of coagulopathies. The aim of the present study was to evaluate coagulation profile of cyanotic cardiac patients with TEG,...

TEG® and ROTEM® in trauma: similar test but different results?

INTRODUCTION Transfusion in trauma is often empiric or based on traditional lab tests. Viscoelastic tests such as thromboelastography (TEG®) and rotational thromboelastometry (ROTEM®) have been proposed as superior to traditional lab tests. Due to the similarities between the two tests, general opinion seems to consider them equivalent with interchangeable interpretations. However, it is not cl...

Reduced Transfusion During OLT by POC Coagulation Management and TEG Functional Fibrinogen: A Retrospective Observational Study

UNLABELLED Patients undergoing orthotopic liver transplantation are at high risk of bleeding complications. Several Authors have shown that thromboelastography (TEG)-based coagulation management and the administration of fibrinogen concentrate reduce the need for blood transfusion. METHODS We conducted a single-center, retrospective cohort observational study (Modena Polyclinic, Italy) on 386...
